There is nothing more fun than playing Bogan Bingo with your friends. We shouldn’t be afraid to laugh at our cultural quirks and stereotypes from time to time. Around the world, every country and continent has them, and one of Australia’s most famous is the Bogan ‘bad taste’ culture. Brush up on some of our favorite Aussie slang and she’ll be right mate.
In the case of Bogan Bingo, no self-respecting bogan would turn up without the appropriate attire. Many TV shows have embraced Bogan culture wholeheartedly if you’re looking for inspiration.
Bogan Costume Inspiration:
Have a Captain Cook at the following shows like Home & Away and Neighbours, Bogan Pride, Bogan Hunters, Upper Middle Bogan and Kath & Kim for inspiration. Shane Warne, Kath & Kim, Rebel Wilson, Kylie Mole, Julia Gillard, Steve Irwin, Warrick Capper, ACDC (Angus), Pauline Hanson, and Russell Coight are all popular bogan characters to emulate. 
Better than a ham sandwich the typical blokes bogan dress code consists of unkempt mullet hairstyles, lumberjack checked shirts, baseball caps worn backwards, ill-fitting singlets, Doc Marten boots, and anything with an Aussie flag print. It’s the same/similar for sheilas, but they wear leggings, Ugg boots, ripped and cut off denim, butterfly g-strings and cowboy hats.
Bogan Bingo will be a ripsnorter with your friends because it is a hilarious way to let your hair down and be someone else for a few hours. It features brash banter, ‘trailer trash’ outfits, cheap booze, politically incorrect humour, loud rock music, and offbeat bingo prizes.
Even if it is only for a night, it can be truly liberating to let your hair down and not worry about what others think! Given half the chance, even the most conservative friends love dressing up and acting like stereotypical Aussie bogans. An evening of Bogan Bingo looks like this:
The best place to hold your bingo night
You could host your Bogan Bingo event at your local Lawn Bowls Club. Thus, you’ll have instant access to a bar with perfect drinks. You’ll want a few Aussie flags draped around the place. Make sure there is pizza on tap to wash down with the slabs of Castlemaine XXXX or Victorian VB.
If you are going to call Bingo, you will obviously need a caller, so ask a friend to do it for you, or do it yourself. The drag queen April La Trene or Dragged To, make great bingo callers if nobody else is up for the job. Callers should be able to rile up the crowd with their rowdy banter and personality.
A bingo game means prizes
Having a few bogan-style delights lined up for each bingo round will ensure that winners are appropriately rewarded. There would be a good market for meat trays, original Home & Away box sets, and clichéd bumper stickers. A prize in the form of stolen beer mats or street signs would be a nice bogan trophy.
Tattoos are another cool prize idea. As bogans are fans of questionable home-made tattoos, a temporary one would be an excellent prize. You can use body paint or henna to make trashy renderings of children’s or lovers’ names, Aussie flags, clichés like ‘love and hate’, grandparents’ faces, and so on.
This would be a novel prize, appearing on the cover of ‘Bogue magazine’. You can photoshop your winner onto the cover of Bogue in all their bogan glory. A bit of creative talent would be needed to create this piece of memorabilia.
There is also a website dedicated to things bogans like, which might spark a few creative ideas for prizes. Fundraising can be done by holding a chook raffle with frozen chickens for the winner.
Fist-pumping and head-banging
Rock music is taken very seriously by Bogans. They love a good head-banging, fist-pumping session, so why not encourage them? You can inspire your Bogan Bingo event guests to let their mullets down by blasting 80s-themed music. Imagine ACDC, Queen, Guns n Roses, Deborah Harry, Joan Jett, Cold Chisel, and Jimmy Barnes.
Finish up with an air guitar competition while they’re on their feet. There are many laughs to be had watching the competitors spin around like turtles! The more excited bogans get, the more eye-raising their behavior tends to be.
Wear the trashiest clothes and makeup you can imagine, swill beer like it’s going out of style, and practice your air guitar skills while listening to cheesy 80’s music. You may even win some ripper prizes. A bogan bingo event has everything you could ask for, right?
