This Easter, what are you going to do? If you live in Melbourne, here’s how to celebrate Easter. Children don’t have the only reason to get excited about Easter egg hunts. Even adults can enjoy watching and participating in them.

What is the origin of the Easter Bunny?

In the late 1600s, German Protestants imagined the bunny to be a hare, and he was like a ruminant’s Santa Claus. Toys were given out by Santa Claus, but eggs were given out by the Easter Bunny. Apparently this hare thought the same way as Santa: gifts should only be given to the most deserving children.

Children who were deemed good by the Easter bunny would receive Easter egg hunts. And if you don’t… well, better luck next year. It was the Easter Bunny’s basket of eggs that revealed he was no ordinary hare. Where do eggs come from? It was believed that eggs symbolized purity and new beginnings. Historically, eggs weren’t always colored, but the Dutch started the egg-coloring tradition around the 1700s.

The question is, how can you make the most of this judgmental, egg-laying ruminant this Easter? Here are a few ideas:

Good Friday Appeal- Kids Day Out

This Good Friday, the fun-filled Kids Day Out will return to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, supported by the City of Melbourne. There are carnival rides, classic cars, and a Woolworths Fresh Food Fair to enjoy. You can bring your own teddy bear for a check up at the Teddy Bear Hospital.   Carnival rides, inflatables, and showbags will delight the young and young at heart. Check out the performance stage for Chinese Fan dancing, African Drumming, Bollywood dancing, and BAm Arts interactive performances.

In support of the Good Friday Appeal, the Bellarine Railway is once again offering scenic train rides along the Bellarine Peninsula while raising funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital.

Every hour on Good Friday, trains depart from Queenscliff Station and head along Swan Bay to Lakers Sliding.

For something a little different
Tesselaar Flower Farm– Bespoke Flower Circus

Come see the world’s first KaBloom Circus show! The magical woods will be filled with flower fairies, sprites, and pixies to delight and entertain visitors. Five metres up in the air, Melbourne’s own ‘SWAY’ circus troupe will perform on sway poles! In the world of BLOOM, you’ll be captivated by the sometimes outlandish and mischievous performers. A series of cheeky performers bend and sway to impossible angles, animating the skies above while introducing you to the strange and wonderful world of nature.

During the Easter weekend, there will also be Easter Egg hunts.

Throw an Adult’s Easter party and invite some Easter Bunnies

Good for: Adults only

Have an adults-only Easter party if you want to have as much fun as possible without kids hanging off your ankles. Why not let your ears down and prancing around in your Easter bunny clobber in the yard?

Who said Easter was just for kids? Now it’s time for candy-inspired cocktails like this Easter Jelly Bean Cocktail. Dress your guests in bunny ears and/or rabbit hats at the very least, and ask them to bring a basket of booze and/or liqueur chocolates to use as prizes during the hunt or game.

Your egg hunt can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, with or without eggs; why not turn it into a drinking game? Swig your drink if you find a blue egg, for example. Yellow eggs are downed. The person whose drink is pink gets to swig or down theirs, etc. Also you might also want to play Twister or charades with your bunny crew.

You can have so much fun in Melbourne, and the Easter Bunny is a big part of it. Lets get out there and give him a reason for being judgmental!
