It’s funny how time seems to warp when we try to recall movie dates, and books are the same. It’s incredible that the world’s favourite young wizard, Harry Potter, has been around in print for 20 years! As it happens, we’ve been tricked… Harry has actually been around for 37 years! For those baffled by the mystical maths, Harry came to life in 1997 with The Philosopher’s Stone, but he was actually born to J.K Rowling back in 1990, apparently on a crowded train… fortunately only in her mind!

Music festivals are common pursuit these days – they are part of modern culture. Their popularity is self-evident and they’re not about to stop being fun any time soon. But is it possible that we can take some of the shine out of things by doing it the same way every time?
If you were to eat the same three meals every day for a month the chances are you get bored of them. The same concept could be applied to your music festival habits; variety is the spice of life, as they say, so why not pull out all the stops when you go to your music festivals this year?
Customers are looking forward to their Oscar parties on 28th Feb. Perhaps you have a favorite nominee. We love best picture nominees Mad Max Fury Road and The Martian. For best Actress we love the home grown leading lady Cate Blanchett in Carol and Leo DiCaprio in The Revenant. For special effects, sound, music and editing you can’t go past Star Wars the Force Awakens. Our favorite category has to be for the best costume, so many to choose from. We loved Sandy Powell for Cinderella and Carol, and Mad Max Fury Road Jenny Beavan. But were disappointed that The Dressmaker costumes by Marion Boyce, Margot Wilson for was too low profile to get nominated. Whoever is your favorite for an Oscar we can help with some great themed costumes.

Bastille Day is a commemoration of the events of 14th July 1789, when crowds of angry Parisians stormed the Bastille prison. This was an act of rebellion, intended to communicate their resistance to the king’s supreme rule; it ended up being the beginning of the French Revolution, in fact, and the subsequent formulation of the modern French Republic.
Since 1880, 14th July has been national holiday in France. It is called Fête de la Fédération and celebrates the success of those who risked all for change on that fateful day. This celebration of French culture now happens all over the world, with parties, balls, feasts, fireworks and parades… all in the name of freedom. It should come as no surprise that Melbourne is fully on board with this too!

Cool off even as things heat up with these fun summer hot weather costumes ideas:
The 1920s is known as the roaring twenties for a reason. Today the roaring twenties still invoke nostalgia; it was the era that birthed glamorous fashion and decadence. This memorable decade was also the time when women became able to vote, and people generally became more liberated; personal cars were more prevalent, people became very interested in dance, and plenty of partying was the done thing. It seems we have never looked back!
The upcoming Supanova comic con and gaming expo this month got us thinking. Conventions like this would not be what they are if it wasn’t for cosplay. That’s exploration at its finest!
If you’re looking for a day out with a difference, go along to a cosplay/gaming convention.
