year 12 celebrateAs with many things in life Schoolies Break Loose at the End of Year 12, as one things ends, it marks the beginning of something new. Year 12 is no different. School leavers often feel a sense of nostalgia for their memorable school years… and on the other hand, they’re champing at the bit for the new adventure that awaits them.

Your amazing school years are one reason to celebrate… and the exciting times ahead of you are another! Before knuckling down to exams most students want to celebrate the end of official school duties and if you think about it, you’re marking the end of your childhood too. Time to let your hair down and blow off some steam, perhaps?

How to celebrate breaking loose from school?

year 12 prankOnce upon a time, school kids went wild for muck up day. Pranks were getting more outrageous every year, like one big competition rolling over and over… until the pranks were so questionable that they resulted in trouble. Today you’re more likely to be letting off steam with a charity fun run, perhaps dressing up for an assembly, treasure hunting school memorabilia, or having a water fight on the Oval.

You might be taking part in a leaver’s luncheon, or a graduation ceremony; if you can pit your skills against your very own teachers in a sports match, that’s a triumph you won’t forget in a hurry. These days things may be a little less unruly, but your school still wants you to have fun. And fun you shall have!

You certainly won’t be the only one looking to let your hair down either. Dress-up days are a big one for end of year celebrations, and as schoolies love to do things together, dressing up in group costumes is a great idea! It’s a really fun way to celebrate with your friends, and half the fun is in choosing the outfits!year 12 sports match

year 12 mario brothersSuper Mario

Super Mario is alive and well in the hearts of most kids of the last couple of generations. He’s kept many of us glued to our screens, desperately trying to reach the next level. Celebrate as the Super Mario Brothers and any of their sidekicks for a hilarious end of year 12.

Disney Princesses

Find us a girl that hasn’t dreamed of being a Disney Princess at least once, and we’ll… well, we won’t believe you. There are so many Disney Princesses to choose from: Elsa from Frozen, Cinderella, Anna and Jasmine are just a few…  and wouldn’t they make a head-turning bunch when they all get together? Just try not to tarnish their sparkling reputations!

Ghostbusters

This classic crew would be very at home busting haunting memories at your school end celebrations. All you need to sort out is who is going to be the main men (Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, and Zeddemore) and who is going to be Slimer?! Just make sure it’s only ghosts you’re busting…

Alice group costumesAlice in Wonderland

Ah, Alice. She will always be a firm favourite, and she has so many friends! You could turn your entire schoolyard into a remake if you put your minds to it; you could be Evil Queens, Kings of Hearts, packs of cards, Tweedle Dum and Dee, White Rabbits…  Sometimes Alice misbehaves (off the books, of course), so Bloody Alice might be a good fit for your activities.

got costumesGame of thrones

Now this is a hard costume theme to resist. Who doesn’t love GoT? Every kid who got into this epic show has surely had character fantasies. Now’s your chance! Who will be who among your motley crew? Will you be one of the Lannisters? Jon Snow? Khaleesi Daenerys Targaryen? Or even a dragon?

Harry Potter

Harry and his cronies are pretty perfect for an end of year dress up celebration. It’s time to cast a few spells on your teachers for all those undeserved detentions. Or maybe you’ll just conjure up a fabulous future instead. You’ve got Harry himself and Hermione, the professors, the witches and wizards, and all the other colourful characters to choose from.

teletubbie costumesTeletubbies

Wobble around your school talking nonsense for a comical farewell to your childhood. Teletubby outfits excuse you and your friends from all manner of bizarre utterances and behaviours! For a day you get to say whatever you want to people, as long as it’s in your ‘other’ language!

Toy Story

Toy Story is another cool option for costume teamwork. These outfits are particularly amusing, so you’re guaranteed a giggle. Whether you’re Buzz Lightyear or Woody makes no odds, you’ve smashed your exams (hopefully) so you earned your superhero/protagonist status.

Village People

Y… MCA! The village people know how to celebrate. They make life look like a breeze! Get together and dress up as this diverse band and you can warble away without a care in the world.

The Avengers

All those years at school, you probably have something worth Avenging, right? What better way to do so than in the proper attire? Captain America lands in Australia for a day to meet up with the Incredible Hulk and put the world to rights. Maybe they’ll get a bit of back up from Thor and the gang.

pokemon costumesPokemon

Like the Tellytubbies, Pokemon get up guarantees hilarities. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself being chased all over the school though! If you’re not up for the challenge of a spherical physique, there’s always the cute Misty… no guarantees she won’t be chased even more though!

Star Wars

Last but by no means least, the timeless classic Star Wars makes for a perfect schoolies celebration. From Hans Solo and Chewbacca to Darth Vader, Emperor Palpitine and the Ewoks, you’re spoilt for choice. May the force be with you for your end of year frolicks.
