With the right decorations, themed activities, and gourmet treats, your guests will feel like they’ve stepped onto the red carpet. Follow these Oscar-worthy tips to throw an unforgettable awards night.
Set the Scene with Hollywood Glamour
Transform your space into a star-studded venue with elegant decorations that scream ‘Tinseltown.’
- Red Carpet Entrance – Lay out a strip of red fabric at your front door to give your guests the VIP experience from the moment they arrive.
- Gold & Black Theme – Use gold tablecloths, black and gold balloons, and glittering centerpieces to create a sophisticated Hollywood ambiance.
- Movie-Inspired Decor – Add movie clapperboards, director’s chairs, and framed posters of classic films to complete the scene.
- Photo Booth Fun – Set up a backdrop with Oscar statuettes and provide fun props like oversized sunglasses, fake Oscars, and feather boas for Instagram-worthy moments.
Dress to Impress: Red Carpet Attire
The Academy Awards are as much about fashion as they are about film, so encourage guests to bring their best red carpet looks.
- Classic Hollywood Glam – Channel icons like Audrey Hepburn with elegant gowns, gloves, and pearl necklaces.
- Director-Inspired Costumes – Pay homage to filmmaking legends with vintage director’s outfits, complete with movie clapboards and berets.
- Movie Character Looks – Have fun dressing as a famous nominee or a beloved movie character from the past year.
- Avant-Garde Style – Push fashion boundaries and get creative with bold, high-fashion-inspired outfits!
Host a Red Carpet Walk & Fashion Commentary
No Oscar party is complete without a red carpet fashion show! Give each guest their moment to shine by having them strut their stuff while the ‘paparazzi’ (aka your friends with cameras) snap photos.
- Nominate a Host – Elect one person to provide hilarious fashion commentary as guests make their grand entrances.
- Make It a Competition – Hold a vote for the ‘Best Dressed’ and award them a fun prize, like a gold-wrapped chocolate ‘Oscar.’
Predict the Winners & Play Oscar-Themed Games
Engage your guests with fun Oscar night activities while waiting for the awards to start.
- Ballot Predictions – Print out voting sheets with all the nominees and have guests guess the winners. Whoever gets the most correct predictions wins a prize!
- Oscar Trivia – Test everyone’s movie knowledge with a trivia game about past Oscar winners and famous speeches.
- Movie Quote Challenge – See who can guess the most famous film quotes in a timed game.
Indulge in Award-Winning Food & Drinks
No Oscar party is complete without a delicious spread of star-studded snacks and beverages.
- Champagne & Mocktails – Serve bubbly and glamorous cocktails with a Hollywood twist, such as ‘Red Carpet Royale’ (cranberry juice and champagne) or a non-alcoholic ‘Golden Glow’ punch.
- Gourmet Hors d’Oeuvres – Treat your guests to classy appetizers like smoked salmon canapés, mini bruschettas, or truffle popcorn.
- Movie Theater Classics – Offer a popcorn bar with different flavors and toppings, along with classic candy boxes and nachos.
- Sweet Endings – Finish the night with bite-sized desserts like mini cheesecakes, gold-dusted chocolates, and themed cupcakes.
